To Evaluate the role of Somaraji Taila Lepa in Switra Kusta- A Pilot Study
Abstract
Skin is the best indicator of general health and even a layman’s eye can detect the changes in melanin pigmentation. The patients of Switra will feel that they are separated from the society and get depressed psychologically. There are no cardinal symptoms of Switra except white colored patches. So it is a cosmetic disfigurement and patients generally complain about their appearance. As per modern science when melanin, the pigment necessary for colour of skin is not produced leads to white patches and Switra is co-related with Vitiligo. Vitiligo affects the 1% of world population. The effective treatment for Switra is yet to be found out, as the response rate is very much less. As per Ayurvedic classics Chikitsa of Switra consist both Antaparimarjana and Bahirparimarjana Chikitsa.
